Useless
We got things stolen from our property in front of the ring security camera but didn’t catch anything. They only sent notifications geckos, mosses and cars moving etc ... I went to see in front of camera, I was not even there! Talked to technical supports team but they couldn’t resolve the issues and just said ‘ don’t know why ‘ stolen and cameras not working ... what a waste money. Don’t depend on them because it doesn’t do anything.
It took 3 weeks working with ring…
It took 3 weeks working with ring personnel to get it to work. If you don't give them 30 dollars a year for cloud service you can't see your videos. Like everyone else has learned, by the time you get the notification that someone is at your door, and you open the app to see, they are long gone. Totally false advertising by ring.
Finally I got the time to install Ring…
Finally I got the time to install Ring doorbell 2. I regret the 4 holes I made to my front oak door to screw this expensive doorbell in. I think it is a waste of money for the purpose intended.
It notifies you at your cell phone when someone is at your front door(sometimes), but by the time I'm trying to get to the video in my cell, it's to late. I never manage to see and talk to whomever was at the front door. Whomever was is gone or already broke into the house. If you don't subscribe to see the video replays, you'll never know. I have to have my cell connected to Ring all the time if I wanted to see and talk(absurd!)
Don’t waste your money
Don’t waste your money. Mine stop working while I was 2,000 miles away on vacation. Customer service said it “fell off” our internet and we need to have a “trusted neighbor” fix it for us. What a crock of crap,
Long Time user and beta tester not happy with long term experience
I bought the ring door bell about three/four years ago when they first started advertising on TV and I am part of the beta test group. I am also the owner of a home electronics installation company. I have been in business for 30 years. I have installed about 16 of the ring door bells for my customers. Last week I had a unit that would no longer ring the customers indoor chime. The circuit in the ring door bell had blown out. The voltage from the door bell transformer was between 16 and 21 volts AC just where it is supposed to be. Ring technical support had no idea why it had blown out but since the unit was over 2 years old the customers only recourse was to buy another unit with a $50.00 discount.
NOW my ring door bell stopped working the other day. It can no longer connect to the Ring produced network during setup. The Ring technician told me it was because MY internet connection was too slow. My answer was … how come it worked for the last 3 or 4 years (?) and I have a fiber optic network connection, the fastest available. I asked to speak to someone more knowledgeable and it was determined that the Ring door bell was faulty. But AGAIN my only recourse is to buy another door bell with a $50.00 discount. In my quest to write a review, I find that there is no way to directly mail or talk to anyone higher than a technical support person about any complaints you have.
NOT GOOD>
I will no longer be installing or using the Ring door bell, There are other options.
worse support
worse support. Their security cams are horrible
A useless and exasperating waste of money.
Dreadful line of products.
Ring 2 doorbell, spotlight cam battery: numerous false alarms. Everything triggers them except events you actually want to trigger the camera - sunlight, small animals (including bugs), a running air conditioner, vehicles well outside of maximum range, rain, opening the app, cameras trigger simultaneously... but somehow they consistently miss actual human beings walking towards the cameras from five feet away. This is a major stress inducer (who wants to review 119 false alarms in a single 9-hour period?) and a waste of battery life. Somehow the developers decided to provide adjustable motion detection sensitivity to wired cameras only. Yeah, cameras you plug into an outlet (which you probably wouldn’t be using outdoors because who has outlets all over the outside of their house?). Because of course.
“Well, I’ll just turn off motion alerts” you say? Okay. You’ll still get those 119 videos of spiders crawling on the cameras in a 9-hour period. It’ll just be a surprise. Because turning off motion alerts doesn’t turn off motion detection. You have to go through the tedious process of turning off each camera and then hope you remember to turn them back on. “Wait, don’t they have size and weight filtering and facial recognition?” These cameras see rain and grasshoppers but not actual human invaders. That’d be a no.
Also, if you think you’re going to be able to install a camera even five feet away from your house, think again. As soon as you step outdoors the cameras drop signal and don’t pick up again until you attach them to your house.
Chime: In the app you have the option to turn off ring and motion detection alerts for each camera. The chime, however, sounds off regardless of the fact that you have one or both types of alerts toggled off on the app. This is a wonderful feature if you like hearing high-pitched noises numerous times throughout your sleep cycle. Even better if you prefer to never sleep at all.
Chime Pro: Touted by Ring as a WiFi extender, the chime pro network is actually weaker than if you were to connect your devices directly to the router.
App: Takes so long to open that by the time you’re finally able to answer the doorbell the person has either left or proceeded to break in.
“Okay, I’ll just keep a computer nearby with the website up and use that to answer the doorbell.” No you won’t, because you can’t access your devices via the website. You can only download videos from the cloud and buy more crap on the website.
Customer support: So have you ever confronted someone about their horrible behavior only for them to launch a victim-blaming, gaslighting diatribe? If so, you know how Ring’s customer support is going to treat you. It’s YOUR fault their devices are absolute garbage.
Update 4/20/19: They’ve fixed the chime. They’ve updated the app/software several times since February 2019, but nothing useful and certainly not the motion detection improvements they promised would be available in early 2019. So, I’m still getting an overwhelming number of false alarms, the app still takes forever to load, and it’s still unable to connect to live view when I use it to answer the doorbell. Yup. Still a useless and exasperating waste of money.
Update 5/28/19
So today I found out that the cameras record even when deactivated. So if I’ve got this straight, these cameras catch everything from bugs flitting by to changes in the sun’s position in the sky, even while turned off, but can’t catch whoever keeps vandalizing my property? Okay. Oh, and it’s 3 days until June and I’m still waiting for the updates that were promised for “early 2019”. Mm-hmm.
Update 7/19/19
What’s pissing me off today? The fact that I check my ring notifications first thing in the morning and see that I got 57 notifications between 7pm and midnight, and all of them are 30-second clips of cats. Hey, don’t get me wrong; I like cat videos as much as anyone else - however, no one wants to spend an hour watching cats crap on their lawn. That probably wouldn’t be a problem had they ever delivered on their “people only” feature. Which was due in... you guessed it. “Early 2019”.
Great concept
The last review I left was 2 stars but this is just getting worse. It is late evening now and I keep getting false alerts. Daytime it maybe the sun or a cloud moving. Who knows anymore. Love that is has everything you need in the box but at this point I can just say: do yourself a favor and try something else. Not worth the headache but on the rare occasion it does work, its great.
There IS a monthly charge! Don’t do it!
The fact that you have to pay a monthly subscription to save the video is criminal.
The data travels through my computer and should have the option to use my own cloud.
Once the battery dies I will remove it and find an alternative solution that doesn’t soak you for saving the video that makes the product worth anything.
The Ring doorbell is my worst buy ever
The Ring doorbell is my worst buy ever. Endless problems with getting it to connect to my router. And there is no help to get from the seller, at least no help that leads to solving my problem.
Don't waste your money.
When you buy this item you might as well spend another 49.00 for the Wi-fi booster. When it's first hooked up it works great but as time goes on the Wi-fi signal gets weaker and weaker until it won't work anymore. It's a gimmick for you to spend more money on Ring products. Sad! Sad! Don't waste your money on this junk!. I bet everyone that bought one has to buy the $49.00 Wi-fi booster.
Waste of money
Waste of money. Going to return it. After two weeks of trying to get it to work, I'm done with it. It does whatever it wants. Cannot trust it. Badly written software. Product went to market when it is still rife with bugs.
Bad support
Bad support, different supporters tell different things.
Only 1 main user possible, shared users dont have much that they can adjust. Not more than 1 main user possible, so you have to share login details which basically sucks, especially when main user is not home often and then getting support id toigh for the guestuser.
Cameras fog up easily, also freeze too easy in cold weather. Also rain covers the lenses too easy.
The doorbell doesnt always get triggered, the Chime doesnt always go when the cameras are triggered and show up on the devices.
Which also sucks is that ONLY in the USA apparently the referral bonus is possible.
We dearly regret our buy. To return we need to ship to Germany and that is way too expensive. If we knew this up front, we would have gone for Arlo cameras at G4S, our alarm company.
Don’t buy this stuff. We had about 10 people we wanted to refer to Ring, but we tell them now to choose G4S instead.
Your loss, Ring!!!
Worst customer support my device is…
Worst customer support my device is constantly offline or produces no video. Call support was on the line forever with them trying to convince me what I did wrong never once tried to troubleshoot. Shame on them.
RING 2 Doorbell,
RING 2 Doorbell,
This product is not hardened for outdoor temperatures other than fair weather locations. They warn you (after I am sure receiving thousands of complaints this winter) due to cold temperatures it fails and they try to blame it on the battery going dead. The battery when removed during failure is fully charged. It is the circuitry/connections that are failing. Once the battery is momentarily removed and replaced the system works again until it disconnects at @ -13F. I HAVE MORE RELIABLE SOLAR/BATTERY POWER LIGHTS THAT WORK AT -40F THAT I PURCHASED FOR $1.99...
Worst customer service ever!!
Worst customer service ever!!
I shouldn't have to pay for video coverage.
Like the idea of having video coverage on my front door however i'm not impressed with the length of the taping. If the door bell senses motion, say someone pulling into my driveway then getting out and walking up to the door, it will only record 30 seconds, even if they push the door bell and stand there the recording stops. So now that the trial is over for the door bell you have to pay to see any video that your door bell recorded.. are you kidding me?!?! Sometimes the recording doesn't start until the person who tripped off the motion sensor is half way in the house. I should have just invested in a Nest door bell, spent the extra $150 and been done with it. Lesson learned.
Missing Orders, Miscommunication, and Terrible Packing
Bought an entire Ring alarm system through their web-site. It took over a month for the items to arrive. But, it was incomplete (missing box 2a) and it had no packing material. Items were just thrown in a box and sent to me. So they send a replacement for box 2a. I wait another two weeks. The replacement box (2b) and original box (2a) arrive one day apart. By this time I have ordered a complete SimpliSafe system which arrives on time and is already set-up. I request a return label for three boxes, and wait for it's arrival. None arrive. I call again, and they ask "what is the return labels for?" Are you kidding?
You'd think with Amazon acquiring Ring, things would have gotten better. Nope. I haven't had this bad shipping and miscommunication with a company since before the internet. They make great commercials and ads, but that's where the money goes. To Shaquille O'Neal.
Very disappointed with lack of customer…
Very disappointed with lack of customer service or the ability to write an email stating my issues.
Secondly without a monthly subscription this system is for all practical purposes is useless. Totally useless
I strongly recommend NOT buying this product. I bought almost everything they offer
Gabriel is rude and condescending
Gabriel is rude and condescending
Poor customer service
Poor customer service. Horrible.
Poor customer service
Poor customer service, poor integration in Australia. Consistent delays with doorbell and camera - WIFI network is very good - not the issue.
Not receiving Ring credit for referral program
I have been participating in the Ring credit referral program. I have referred over 25 people in which I have taken the time to sit down with each of them and explain the great features of the app and Ring and walked them through the process of downloading the app and signing up through my referral link. I have not received credit for everyone I have referred. I called and they told me to wait 30 days to see the credits. I waited 30 days, called again and they told me there is nothing they can do that the people I referred must not of passed the "fraud test". I told them I read the requirements for the fraud test and everyone I helped with the app all met the requirements. They were very rude to me on the phone and left it at they couldn't help me and hung up. I am very disappointed with the customer service.
The battery drains really quick
The battery drains really quick. I reside in an area where you barely see a car drive by, a leaf on any tree waves, or the birds fly from one tree to the next... I just replaced my battery about an hour ago and it's already at 95%. I can imagine what Ring consumers encounter in areas in high traffic areas; Battery's changed every several hours. I guess this is the scam to buy to solar panel
