The person on the phone was so rude
The person on the phone was so rude. In addition to her attitude all she had me do was reset my ring device and when that didn't work she said I needed to replace it. And that is it. no other trouble shooting. No attempt to keep my business. Just a sorry it doesn't work anymore. I was going to buy the entire home alarm system and multiple cameras this week as well as upgrade my subscription. I guess I will go to nest.
In early 2017
In early 2017, Ring security cameras were worth buying. Customer service was excellent. No longer. I will never purchase a ring anymore although in the beginning, I used to be a big promoter. Finding a specific time video means you have to keep scrolling for 5 minutes, then when you star the event, your star event doesn't show it. then you call customer service, and you hear music for 15 minutes before a human answers. whereas the human answering used to be eloquent, awak, customer oriented and knowledgable, now you get a sleppy, may be drugged person who doesn't speak coherently and puts you on hold 5 times and every solution means more scrolling for you and still no solution. He can't even send an email to your account and then call gets disconnected! WOW, 40 minutes on the phone, irritated, no solution, and disgusted with Ring's lack of capability and awful customer service. EEEEK
Horrible customer service and poor product life
I bought the Ring video doorbell when they were pretty new and paid $199 for it (and I bought a couple other Ring devices). The doorbell worked fine for the first year while it was under warranty, but as soon as the warranty ran out it stopped connecting to my wifi. After spending literally hours on hold with their customer support, they said it must be defective and I need to buy a new one. I asked for a replacement because i thought they should stand behind their products, but they said the warranty was up so there was nothing they could do. When I asked to speak to a manager they put me on hold and left me there for over 30 minutes. Horrible company and I will never recommend them again.

24\7 Customer service is a joke you have to leave a callback number otherwise I’ll leave you holding which I did for more than 15 minutes.
Good luck if you need customer service I cannot recommend this company they are horrible
We were happy at first
We were happy at first, but when we were out state we could not get any customer service at all. We waited for 40 minutes twice and got cut off. The next day they called us and told us there was nothing they could do to help us until we were home. EXCUSE me we are over 1000 miles away. Big thank you to my neighbors and ADT!
Your customer service is horrible.poor customer service
Your customer service is horrible.. I wish I never got this doorbell thing .. it's been nothing out problems!
Ring STICK-UP cameras
Ring STICK-UP cameras are not suitable for outdoor use at night unless your premises are well lite. For this and many other reasons Ring no longer manufactures nor sells them. A Ring agent recently told me.
Slyly take money from your account without your authorisation!
The products are decent when they work but unfortunately they fail too often and at crucial time. This is no guarantee that motion, calls will be recorded as I have founded out having owned both the doorbell and floodlight cam.
Customer service is pretty poor in that recently I found that Ring had taken additional payments from my account without my authorisation! When I noticed this I contacted them and they stated mistakes happen and just refunded the additional charge after I pressed them. Very unethical business practices and customers should not have to constantly check their bank accounts to see if Ring has slyly taken additional money out.
Hopefully Amazon will sort out the mess that is their customer service department!
UPDATE DEC 2018: Revising this review down to 1 star instead of 2 as Ring customer support are terrible and technically inept. Devices constantly deop wifi and Ring believe that is to be expected. Excellent that they think the device not recording anything for several days is acceptable but you must still pay their subs for that privilege. Absolute joke!
quit working after 2 months
quit working after 2 months, they want you to pay $30 dollars a year to record information. no where do they tell you this upon purchase all the sudden you start getting messages. Not worth the money
Commecial and tecnical a very bad product,
We bought this because we wanted something to show us who was at our front door. NO WHERE in any of the literature does it say that you have to have a continuing account (first month free) with a monthly fee to Ring to use the doorbell.
Despite this, I decied to pay for one year. Without continuing the account the doorbell is of no use. I do not want to give creditcard credentioals because they only sell with recurring payment and I do not want this!. So I can not buy a service for one year.
The images can not be saved to you own devices despite the doorbell is using your own wireless network!
Then the doorbell is very slow, if you receive a call on your mobile device by the time you have a connection between your mobile device and the doorbell the caller has already left!
Unsatisfied with product
I have had my ring doorbell now for almost 3 years Also another one on the front of my house also the ring chime thinking I get better connection. Mistake very unsatisfied with my ring doorbell and stick up camera I have nothing but problems constantly having to re-connect them slow connection and when you go to talk to someone it cuts in and out. I have talk to other people who have the same problem.. when you call for support they always try to tell me it’s my Internet I have the highest speed Internet out there so, I really think it’s their problem not mine I have called numerous times over and over. Still can’t seem to get it right and then when they do their little glitches work up and send you a email saying they fix the problem they don’t work right again!!! I just don’t understand they don’t pick up people from my sidewalk! Only if you’re right in front of the camera and yes I do have it way out for it to catch anything but when speeding cars go bye it catches that! But not on my yard or sidewalk! It’s ridiculous!!!
Don't by from Ring online and don't expect customer service
I don't know if my problems are exacerbated by the fact that Amazon bought Ring recently. I noticed a huge downgrade in Whole Foods once Amazon bought them too. I tried to purchase 4 products directly from Ring online. Stupidly thinking it is better to buy directly from the company for warranty and other issues. Purchased 3 spotlight cameras and 1 battery almost $800. I get a confirmation email of my order and then silence for days. No shipping no updates no nothing. I wait a week and call for status. After being on hold for very long times while they try to contact "shipping" I am told that my items are not in stock. I asked to cancel my order than since they had not shipping anything and they said they could not do that but I would get an email from shipping that same day with updates and instructions on how to cancel my order if I choose to. I get no such email and so call back the next day and get the same song and dance, put on hold while they try to contact shipping, then put on hold again while I get a :supervisor". Shipping is supposed to contact me. I again say forget it can I just cancel because I can buy the products at my nearest Best Buy. Again no they don't have the ability to cancel orders which is crazy. I am not sure what the point of a supervisor was since they also seem to have no authority and no direct access to order or shipping data. Clearly this company is dysfunctional and disjointed. So I say then should I dispute the charge with my credit card company and they said yes that is probably the best route since they don't have the ability to process refunds. Now I am not even sure I want to buy their products somewhere else. If this is the kind of customer service I will have to deal with.

The tech and customer support make the product hate-able!
I got a ring doorbell and tried to get it installed. It never worked after hundreds of dollars to an electrician in addition to the ring cost itself. When my electrician and I tried to contact ring for technical help, no calls or emails were returned. Left with nothing but a standard doorbell, I tried to return the product. Ring wouldn't take it back. They said to talk to Amazon, Amazon said I had to talk to Ring. The run around. Two years later I am being billed for video cloud storage. What the heck? Here we go again.

Put it at my door and can't reach my WiFi signal. Returned it in the week.
Looking for PoE (doorbird?) or 4G LTE (Fenotek?) alternatives... Anyone?
Beware of minimum wi-fi upload requirements.
I would humbly suggest that the minimum wi-fi upload in Mbps be included on the outside of the packaging for this product.
If you do not have an upload speed of 1.0Mbps or greater, you will have performance difficulties with this product as we did..
Battery only lasted a couple of months
I do not have electrical so I cannot hard wire the doorbell. The info said the charge of the battery would last one year so I thought I would give it a try. It lasted maybe 2 or 3 months.(closer to 2 months) I live in Kansas City area and it died on the coldest day of the year. I could not get the bottom unscrewed so that I could bring it in and charge it. It has been a week now and I still cannot get the screws off the bottom. If I ever do get it off, I will probably be returning. Also, a lot of times, the video would not start until the person ringing the bell is walking away.
Save your money
Save your money. The camera works when it wants to. And here's the kicker. I did not renew my yearly subscription and all of a sudden the camera quality went down. Coincidence...I don’t think so. They don't have my money and I don't get the sharp images. Complete bull crap.
Stay away from Ring Video 2 Doorbell, it has no range or resolution.
The Ring Video 2 Doorbell has the weakest WiFi signal I've ever seen. It can't reliably reach 25 feet indoors without an extender. After buying a range extender for the floodlight cam in the back yard, I refused to buy another for the front door. Instead I hard wired an external WiFi antenna to the doorbell and mounted the antenna right at the modem. With 1 foot between the antennas I get an RSSI of 40.
This Doorbell cam is advertised at 1080P but it works nothing like the 1080P floodlight cam. The doorbell cam can't read a license plate at 9 feet but the real 1080P cam easily reads the plate at over 15 feet. After many phone calls regarding the poor focus, they sent a new cam that worked exactly like the first one. I strongly suspect these are 720P cams advertised as 1080P. Compare it to a floodlight cam and see for yourself. They are not the same resolution.
Additionally, the 5 to 30 foot motion setting range on the cam is total nonsense and has nothing to do with range in feet. It is only a relative sensitivity adjustment that determines how large or hot an object must be to trigger the cam. No setting other than "off" will prevent false triggers from vehicles on the street at 25 feet away even at the minimum 5 foot setting. Hours of extra work were required to hard wire an external infrared beam sensor to ring the doorbell when the beam is broken across the front yard.
The updated Windows 10 app is a joke. While they added ability to control the light and siren on the floodlight, they royally messed up important functions that were working. What happened to being able to just open the program and view who is at your front door without having to activate live view within 30 seconds? That should be an automatic function like it was before.
Was it removed to lighten the load on the cloud server? It's become obvious the Ring server is completely overloaded since Christmas. If you're not quick enough to open the program and activate live view when your doorbell rings, you now can wait about an hour before the video can be downloaded from the overwhelmed server.
The staff at Ring are very polite but have little knowledge or ability to resolve any of these problems. It took some effort to convince them that signal strength cannot be effecting resolution or focal quality because the digital signal suffered no pixelation or picture freeze. To make a long story short, if I had not been an electronic technician by trade, all of this would have ended up in the trash as a frustrating waste of time and money.
This company, like many others needs to spend much less money promoting their product and much more on debugging them before releasing them to an unsuspecting public. Technology has provided us with a useful device but rushing a flawed product into sales is causing a lot of customer frustration. The companies response always shows a willingness to correct the problems without any ability to do so. You have to fix it yourself or deal with the flaws. Sad.
Update: I almost forgot to mention those long delays seeing any video or the black screen that often pops up instead of the video. The delay between when the bell rings and when you can see video is long enough that you can easily miss anyone at the door. Ring likes to blame the delayed or missing video on your internet connection. The problem is this issue is reported on all connections from 2gb to 100gb.
The root of this problem is much more inconvenient for Ring than their typical explanation reveals. The doorbell rings instantly because it's hardwired. The chime in the house rings quickly because it's on your home WiFi. The length of time it takes to show your video is dependent on how fast the Ring cloud server can store and display your video upload stream. When it completely fails, you get the black screen or missing recordings.
The holiday sales are exposing the weak link in the chain as being too much traffic on those servers and the delay is longer with more black screens as a result. That's also why your videos are limited to 30 seconds and miss most activity or where the person of interest has walked off to. If the recording time were double, the traffic on the servers would also double. To be useful in many cases, the recording time would need to be several times longer.
Another person commented about the motion sensing not working in the dark. I can confirm that with respect to the floodlight cam, there is absolutely a difference between nighttime motion detection and daytime. Even though the motion light comes on, the motion sensitivity that activates the camera is noticeably reduced at night. I can't confirm if this is the case on my doorbell cam since being 25 feet away from the street has rendered internal motion sensing useless on that cam.
As a last note, the"wired" battery charging circuit on the doorbell cam is almost as weak as its WiFi signal. It charges with a current that is approximately half of what the camera itself draws from the battery. The end result is, if your cam gets a reasonable amount of use, the battery will still run low even though it's hard wired to an external power source. That's using a 24V, 800ma power transformer and a doorbell with a low internal resistance.
Update: After 3 more months it's become obvious Ring only addresses the easy negative posts about their product. When you take the time to list several consistent defects, they won't even try to explain the problem away. Where is that update you promised would make the 1080 doorbell cam read a license plate like the floodlight cam? Where is the update to restore live view? Where is the update to allow windows 10 to do an install? Where is the update to fix the notifications in Android 8?
I've already accepted the fact that live view is a fantasy feature that never works anymore, tricking myself into believing it could still be good enough for average security. Last night, someone ripped the satellite dish off the front of my home, just 10 feet in front of that doorbell cam. You think it recorded anything? It sure did! The POS recorded every car that went by at 25 feet but missed the vandal at 10. SOOOOOO tired of hearing "we are sorry you're not experiencing what we intended and are working on the update". Spend less money on hiring sympathetic customer service people and hire some hardware and software experts that know how to fix your junk before you dump it on the public!
You've got better luck at the casino than you will at getting this device to work as advertised. Don't hold your breath thinking some soon to come update is going to resolve the problem either. After seeing several of these updates so far, they tend to break more things than they fix in each update and never check to see it's debugged before the release.
I've also figured out why it's not possible to keep the battery charged in the cam even when the device is hard wired. I've now confirmed the cam draws approximately 1500 ma from the battery while the internal charging circuit can't even produce 50 ma of charge! This means the load current placed on the battery is over 30 times larger than the charging current!
That is much worse than my previous estimate and makes the charge rate even more feeble than the WiFi signal. How do you sell a battery operated IP based cam that draws three times the maximum current of any USB powered device? Didn't expect anyone to be able to identify that problem, did you? Amazing what you can learn with some carefully placed alligator clips and a milliamp meter.
So Ring, why don't you take the time to respond to this post? Too many technical issues clearly identified to just simply explain them away??? How do you treat customers when you have no ability to actually supply what you've advertised to that customer???? Refund, free cloud recording for a year? Nope. Nothing but empty words and promises that keep me out here telling others the truth about your defective equipment. Still want to tell me that Ring Video 2 doorbell has the same 1080 resolution as the floodlight cam has or that some magic update is going to make the picture quality the same soon?
Great at politely fending off those who may not be technically experienced but run away with delays and denial when cornered by those who are. I'll do another update in three more months and share all the new problems I've noticed while you fix nothing and mess up what's left of the working features.

Been fully charged & on the door & for some reason, it won't notify my or my wife's cellphone when some rings the door button. The motion picks up & you can see the person, but the door button feature has stopped working after only 2 weeks up? NOT happy with this product, expensive & had high expectations for it.
I'm not getting notifications
I'm not getting notifications . Can't get answers from a person on what's wrong and how to fix. I get videoed from motion but no notifications.
Can't get the right color
There was a manufacturing defect with the ring floodlight camera, they had speaker failure. So I sent my black one back I requested another black one and they sent a white one, this one also has problems with the speaker I requested another black one and of course they sent out another white one. I'm waiting to receive the white one so I can send that back and also a black one was supposed to be expedited overnight but that was weeks ago I don't think I'll ever get the proper color and at this point I am pretty fed up with Ring.
